FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers to Common Questions

WHAT ARE "WAISTBEADS"?

Waistbeads are a traditional African accessory which originated in West African cultures. The jewelry is made of seedbeads on binding material. They are typically worn around the waist or hips by women, men, and children. Creators make them in different colors and shapes. At times creators will adorn them with precious gems, stones, crystals, or charms. Waistbeads are a symbolization of intention, energy, rites of passage, milestone, growth, spiritual awareness, wealth, health, belonging, and much more.

HOW DO I SELECT THE RIGHT SIZE WAISTBEADS STRAND?

At Alisa Bailey Creations, strands are sized by beads in inches. The online store sizes are: S (25 inches of beads), M (35 inches of beads), L (45 inches of beads), and XL (55 inches of beads). You will need to accurately measure your waist or where you want to have your strand rest in order to select the one closest to your comfort. We strongly suggest not to select a size too small as it will cause discomfort. Any other sizes not offered online require a fitting with Alisa.

WHAT IS YOUR RETURN POLICY?

Due to the personal intentions of each handcrafted accessory, returns are not accepted. All sales are final.

WHAT IS AN "ARTISAN"?

A worker in a skilled trade, especially one that involves making things by hand.

WHAT DOES "HANDMADE" REALLY MEAN?

Carefully made by hand, not by machine, and typically of superior quality.

WHAT DOES "CRAFT" MEAN?

An activity involving skill in making things by hand.

DO YOU MAKE WAISTBEADS WITH CLASPS OR THAT CAN BE REMOVED DAILY?

No. At Alisa Bailey Creations we believe in keeping waistbeads as close to the original intentions as possible creating strands that are tied on only. From our perspective, each strand has its own purpose. The accessory is a part of or extension of your body and intentions. A daily reminder of your goals and intentions are set with your strands when tied on.
